Mahogany 4 legged bidet with fitted cover. From approximately 1840, French.
Good colour and patination and would make a interesting side table as the cover hides all traces of the furniture's intended use. It is missing the porcelain basin.
For those who are too polite to ask, the bidet was a French invention which was used as a cleaning receptacle for the genitalia etc before plumbing made regular showering commonplace as illustrated below.
