English mahogany chest circa 1770. Top with thumbnail moulding, over a brushing slide, graduating drawers with cockbeading, original brass backplates and escutcheon plates and on bracket feet.
I hunted down this sweet little chest in Boorowa (between Cowra and Goulburn NSW). It dates from the second half of the 18th century and it is a fine example of provincial English cabinetmaking made around the time Cook was mapping the eastern New Holland coastline.
Small chests like this one are rare today, especially in country NSW!
Dimensions: 860mm wide x 830mm high x 490mm deep.
Price: $8450.
